The setting up of the Madeira Corporate Services Contemporary Art Collection (MCS Collection) began in the second half of 2002 through the initiative of its directors, Rosana Rodrigues, a Madeira resident, and Luiz Augusto Teixeira de Freitas, a Brazilian collector residing in Lisbon. For this project, they invited the Brazilian curator Adriano Pedrosa, who has a vast experience with private and corporate collections.
MCS Collection focuses on contemporary drawing. This form of expression was chosen because of the significant upsurge and widespread interest that it has gathered over the past few years.
MCS Collection main area of focus are drawings produced over the last ten years by post-Sixties artists, a boundary that serves to define the spread of the collection and a rich and varied panorama.
A significant part of the collection is deposited with Porta 33 in Funchal, Madeira, a non-profit institution dedicated to the development and support of contemporary art (www.porta33.com).
